    Hello Dr. Alyssa,
I think I didn’t clarify myself clearly when I submitted my feedback. What I meant to point out was that I end up losing my gingival floor when I place my hatchet on the buccal exit point when I go to remove the buccal lip of the contact point (after thinning out the shell and forming the two holes). This happened to me today as well when I was preparing the proximal box and started with the hatchet. I end up losing the gingival floor when I try to smooth my buccal or lingual axial wall of the proximal box.

Ah the answer would still be the same. Make sure you’ve thinned the tooth structure with your bur sufficiently first, and then make sure your hatchet is lined up correctly from all directions. You likely had it tilted towards the lingual too much when you were working on it. Also just like when you’re working with your handpiece, make sure that you have a solid finger rest with your hatchet.

Thank you! I have become a little disheartened and stepped away from the typodonts and focusing on the courses videos. Will get back to it tomorrow
