The shape of the dovetail is that it extends buccally and lingually. It needs to be as sleek as possible, without widening it in a mesiodistal direction.

ERRORS

Not following the orientation of the developmental grooves. The buccal dovetail is directed straight on towards the buccal.

PREVENTION

Buccal dovetails are more extended compared to lingual dovetails.

The buccal developmental groove is actually directed or angulated proximo-bucally. Follow this groove accordingly. If you do not follow this groove, you will try to chase after to prepare the groove making the dimensions of your dovetails a lot bigger.

TROUBLESHOOTING

This problem cannot be remedied because it will just make the dovetail bigger. Prevention is the key and carefully take note on which direction does the groove go.
