Dr. Alyssa,
I did the two plans buccal surface intentionally because a university professor at Loma Linda told me that “you have to create 2 plans on the buccal surface of posterior teeth beside the functional cusp bevel’ the lower one includes 2 third of the buccal surface and the upper one includes one third” and that’s because we want to follow the normal tooth structure anatomy.
Thank you
Got it. This is a grey area that each school can differ on, really depends on what the professors think and there isn’t a ‘standard’ that is agreed upon at the moment.
If you do it that way though, do the majority of the prep as if you’re doing just a 1 plane reduction and give the 2nd plane at the very end. Otherwise it’s easy to mess up the gingival plane angulation, and that’s the more important plane to get right. Messing that one up will either mean an incorrect line of draw or undercut.
Dr. Alyssa, for Colorado University, which method do I have to follow- the two planes or one plane?
Haven’t heard that it’s 2 planes, so I’d assume 1 plane. 1 plane is more common.
