Practicing on Bench-top First

Topic Progress:

It’s important to simulate the testing environment as closely as you can while practicing, and often that will involve the use of a mounting pole and oral cavity cover. However, it is also important to take things step-by-step. Please don’t try to jump to the top of the ladder at once, you’ll fall. Instead, stay focused to the top but take steady strong steps, one at a time.

You first want to know exactly how to do a crown preparation before performing it on a mounted typodont. Mounting a typodont comes with challenges, and facing them before getting the preps right tabletop is trying to tackle too many things at once.

To give you the big picture, there will be largely 3 challenges that will come when practicing.

  1. Learning how to do the ideal preparations itself
  2. Working on a mounted typodont – lower arch
  3. Mastering indirect vision for the upper arch

This is completely normal, so expect them to come, and be patient with yourself.

Take one step at a time.
